The International Women's Day 2019: #BalanceforBetter
The International Women's Day 2019 campaign theme of #BalanceforBetter is a call-to-action for driving gender balance across the world. The movement dates as far back as 1909 but the United Nations didn't adopt it until 1975. It's celebrated in some countries and a public holiday is given while it's completely ignored in some others. It's been discovered that only 23% of legislators all over the world are women while the percentage is much lower in Nigeria. And this is what this year's theme tends to highlight. Several organizations in Nigeria alone have joined the band wagon to create an awareness for equality in work places and government in particular and many politicians have taken to Twitter to show their support which is a good thing.
